Hiatal Hernia and Brain Fog
Both Hiatal Hernia Syndrome and Brain Fog have common underlying root causes and one can cause the other.
Regardless of whether you have one or both, let's delve into what symptoms are associated with brain fog, causes and what you can do to correct it.
Brain fog affects about 28% of the population, more women than men.
Common symptoms include: fatigue, confusion, forgetfulness, trouble focusing, issues with finding words and remembering things.
The causes include: poor sleep (quality and quantity), unhealthy diets (high sugar, ultra-processed foods, fast food) plus eating foods you're sensitive to. Gluten, in particular is very neuro-inflammatory and known to create brain fog.
Stress is another cause, along with insufficient exercise, drinking alcohol, smoking and caffeine in the afternoon or evening. Anxiety and depression along with hormonal imbalance is a cause, as is toxin exposure (including environmental chemicals, heavy metals, mold, viruses). Autoimmune diseases, also more prevalent in women, and rising in incidence is another cause.
What many of the above come down to microbiome imbalance from poor sleep, unhealthy diet, toxin exposure, hormonal imbalance and autoimmune disease. And, your gut produces serotonin, so when your microbiome is imbalance you'll produce less serotonin and the likelihood of brain fog increases, along with anxiety and depression.
How do you fix it? You need to find the root cause of why your body is creating it. There is a reason and it's likely a combination of the above factors that need to be addressed.
Therefore you need to find a clinician who is comfortable evaluating all the above to determine what makes sense in your particular case.
Please don't "fall for" ads that say to take this or that particular supplement. I have nothing against supplementation but it needs to be targeted to you. The odds are low that taking a single supplement is going to address the root cause of your brain fog.
If you suffer with brain fog and want to get to the root cause, my team and I are happy to help!
